Altar Servers assist the priest and deacon at the altar during the celebration of Mass.
The duties of the altar servers include processing into the church with cross and candles, at times holding the missal for the priest, setting the altar during the offertory (in the absence of a deacon), and assisting the priest or deacon with whatever they need during the liturgy. Altar Serves are to maintain a reverent and attentive disposition during the Mass, even so as to allow the congregation to enter into deeper worship.
Boys and girls in the third grade or above who have received First Eucharist are encouraged to become altar servers at regular Sunday liturgies, weddings and funerals. Training is offered once or twice a year by Fr. Leo along with adult volunteers. Adult volunteers are also needed to help coordinate servers' schedules and activities.
